Use of remote sensing data in a GIS environment for water resources management

چکیده
While in the field of hydrology remote sensing techniques are often applied and well accepted there is still a deficit in the use of remote sensing techniques in the field of planning, design and operation of water resources systems. It is the aim of this paper to overcome this deficit and encourage water managers to use remote sensing techniques more widely. In order to achieve this, several successful examples of applications of remote sensing to water management are presented, viz. in the fields of design of water supply reservoirs, reservoir sediment monitoring and control, flood forecasting and control, hydropower scheduling, irrigation scheduling and groundwater exploration for water supply purposes. It is shown that remote sensing data cannot be directly used for these purposes since the electromagnetic data observed by remote sensors have to be transformed into hydrological relevant information. Some techniques are presented, how this can be achieved.

Identification of Groundwater Potential Zones in Moalleman, Iran by Remote Sensing and Index Overlay Technique in GIS
Water plays a vital role in the development of activities in an area. The surface water resources are inadequate to fulfill the water demand. Productivity through groundwater is quite high as compared to surface water, but groundwater resources have not yet been properly exploited. Keeping this view, the present study attempts to select and delineate various groundwater potential zones for the ...

Today, remote sensing technology is used in all scientific and informing fields around the world, and it has achieved to very satisfying results. In the present study, by using remote sensing technology and application of satellite photographs the coefficient of curve number was estimated with high accuracy and pick discharge of the flood was calculated with a good accuracy. In this study, i...
متن کاملAn evaluation of Miqan wetland changes over a 12-year interval and proposing management approaches: A remote-sensing Prespective
Miqan desert wetland is one of the 10 major wetlands in Iran. In 2008, it has changed into a non-hunting area due to its fragile ecology. Evaluating the change trends of the wetland and the use of its surrounding lands is of high significant in order to maintain the wetlands. In this regard, the satellite images of the ETM+ and OLI sensors of years 2002 and 2013 were initially collected. ...
